Tragic Christmas Day on South Australian Roads

Two people were killed on SA roads on Christmas Day with the states road toll for 2021 likely to head into three figures.



The first incident occurred just after 3.15 pm on Christmas day with police and emergency services called to Eyre Highway near Lake Gillies.


Police say a truck crashed and rolled with a 56-year-old man from St Kitts in the Barossa passing away at the scene. Major Crash officers have attended the scene to determine the cause of the crash and investigations are continuing.



The second incident occurred just before 9.30 pm on Christmas day with emergency services called to the St Vincent Highway after reports that a Suzuki SUV collided with a pedestrian.


A 37-year-old woman from Marryatville died at the scene. The driver of the Suzuki, a 61-year-old woman from the Yorke Peninsula was not injured. The St Vincent Highway was closed for several hours but has since reopened to all traffic.


The deaths take the states road toll to 99 as compared to 90 for the same time last year.
